Dr. Samuel Davidoff, MD
Board-Certified Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Founder and President
(718) 261-0900Philosophy of Care
“I believe in treating the whole person, not just the condition. My goal is to find root causes, use the least invasive approach possible, and collaborate with each patient to create a clear and effective treatment plan.” - Dr. Samuel Davidoff, MD
That philosophy shapes every aspect of care at this practice. Rather than defaulting to the most aggressive treatment, Dr. Davidoff works through a diagnostic process that respects patient preferences, weighs the evidence, and keeps the path forward as simple as it can reasonably be. When patients understand their condition and feel heard, they follow through with care. That is not idealism. It is practical medicine.
Biography
Dr. Samuel Davidoff founded Gastroenterology and Nutrition, P.C. in 2008 and has cared for the Forest Hills community ever since. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Davidoff earned his MD at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine in 2001, where he graduated with Distinction in Research, then completed his internal medicine residency (2001 to 2004) and his gastroenterology fellowship (2004 to 2007) at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. His practice covers advanced endoscopic techniques, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal cancer screening, and procedures are performed on-site in the practice’s AAAASF-accredited suite. Originally from Russia, Dr. Davidoff continues a multigenerational family tradition in medicine, with his daughter currently training to become a fourth-generation physician. He is fluent in English and Russian and conversant in Spanish.
Clinical Focus
- Colorectal cancer screening and prevention: Colonoscopy is the single most effective tool for preventing colorectal cancer. Dr. Davidoff performs both screening and diagnostic colonoscopies, including endoscopic mucosal resection for large polyps that might otherwise require a surgical referral.
- Upper GI and esophageal conditions: For chronic acid reflux, GERD, Barrett’s esophagus, and swallowing difficulties, he performs upper endoscopy (EGD) to visualize and evaluate the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine.
- Capsule endoscopy: He uses capsule endoscopy to image the small intestine, areas that standard colonoscopy and upper endoscopy cannot reach, which is particularly valuable for suspected Crohn’s disease, obscure GI bleeding, or unexplained small bowel symptoms.
- Inflammatory bowel disease: Managing Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis requires ongoing clinical judgment. He monitors disease activity, adjusts treatment plans over time, and works to keep patients in remission with the least disruptive regimen possible.
- Liver disease and hepatology: As a hepatologist, he diagnoses and manages fatty liver disease (NAFLD and NASH), viral hepatitis, elevated liver enzymes, and cirrhosis. Many liver conditions are silent in early stages, and catching them before complications develop can change outcomes.
- Hemorrhoid treatment: He offers in-office treatment including rubber band ligation and infrared coagulation, performed in the AAAASF-accredited suite without requiring a hospital visit.
